Hi, I'm Kyle Weiss.
And I'm Stephanie Cadar. We are students here at Des Moines University.
Des Moines University was originally founded in the capital of Iowa, Des Moines.
We currently are located in West Des Moines.
And originally, this was founded as the second oldest osteopathic medical school in the country and slowly grew into the 10 programs we have today.
One thing I love about DMU is the diversity in our community. You never know the type of conversations you'll have with individuals here on campus, as everyone has unique backgrounds and experiences.
Another neat thing about DMU is that it is only a Graduate Health Sciences community. So everyone here on campus is building on their knowledge from an undergrad degree. And focusing in Medicine and Health Sciences, which is truly inspiring and helps you focus on your studies.
Faculty and staff go above and beyond for student's success. They'll meet with you one-on-one, provide study sessions for the whole class, ensure that there's enough PowerPoint material and extra resources on the course website that students can easily access.
Not only are the faculty super awesome, but the community itself built of the students is collaborative, and everybody is helping each other sharing resources because ultimately, at the end of the day, we are the future of healthcare, so we have to ensure everyone's success.
Some advice I would give to students applying to DMU is see if they can find any local alumni in their area. Because I spoke to past alumni who had recently graduated. I just saw how well equipped she was when she went into the field from the education she received here at Des Moines University. And it was pretty much the biggest factor of why DMU was my number one choice.
I chose DMU for multiple reasons. Specifically, I wanted to go into podiatry. And I knew that the program here speaks for itself. It has best board scores, great residency placements, and I ultimately want a job at the end of the day. So it just kind of spoke for itself. And I was like, "I need to go to DMU!"
For students considering DMU, really lean in and look at the people you're interacting with. Visit the campus and actually experience what it's going to be like to be a student here because you can't tell that on a piece of paper. You know, you can look at board scores, and you can look at things like that, but they don't give you a sense of what you're going to experience for the next four years. So my biggest thing is [to] meet with people and lean into those feelings. If you feel like it's the right place. It's the right place.
One thing I'd share about my experience here at Des Moines University is just to reassure those students who are non-traditional to not be afraid. I know when I came into the program, I was very intimidated that my undergrad experience was going to be the only time I was successful. And I've proven myself wrong time after time with not only my grades and success in classes, but also the opportunities I've had available to me.
I'm happy to say I've found a really good friend group that's like a second family. Be ready to and prepare to find that group that's going to be your support group for the next four years. You'll be surprised at how incredible our small class is but we're very mighty with wanting to help each other out.
Des Moines University is located in Iowa...
...But don't let that fool you. There's always events and activities happening on and off-campus for when you're not studying.
Thanks again for joining us. We hope to see you on campus soon.
