Our Commitment to Respect and Belonging

Since 1898, Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences has valued treating all people with respect, supporting underserved communities, and giving students the opportunity to learn from and with individuals who have different life experiences.

We are committed to creating a learning environment where everyone feels welcome, included and respected. By encouraging open conversations and teaching cultural awareness, DMU helps prepare future health care professionals to deliver care that is centered on each patient. Students learn to recognize health differences across populations, understand cultural perspectives and provide high-quality care to people from all backgrounds.

A DMU education prepares students to serve others with compassion, lead in health care settings and make a positive difference in the communities they serve.
