I believe that a high school student would deeply benefit from the High School Summit. Due to the fact of there isn't a lot of exposure. When it comes to exploring healthcare careers.
I found out about the high school summit from my high school counselor, who found out about it through just DMU. I was kind of confused on how to take those steps into college and where to study and what to study.
And so this gives them the opportunity to see and to, you know, get a preview into what their possibilities could be.
My career goals would be, I want to go to pre-med, and study biochemistry, and then become a pediatric cardiologist. I had a lot of surgeries when I was younger. The doctors always made me feel very comfortable, so I just always wanted to do that for other kids.
DMU is going to prepare you very well for your career. The role that I played at the Pre-Health Summit is that of a presenter. I presented about podiatry, and the actual path to that. So for the high school students, of course, you know, you have to get a bachelor's degree, and then you have to take the MCAT, and then apply, and that's a whole process within itself.
The interaction between me and the DMU students was very cool, and how they were in my footsteps just a few years ago and I just found that cool that I got to listen to them and they knew what I was going through.
I enjoyed listening to Abbie, talk to me the evening after she attended the summit. It kind of just clarified for her the whole process, from high school level all the way to medical school, what would be involved and the best choices for her to make to get into medical school.
I would definitely encourage any high school counselor to bring more exposure to their high school students. When it comes to the different health care fields. You need to speak to people who are actually in it, and you need to see the people that are doing it.
I just want to say thank you for putting on that High School Summit. It helped so many, I feel like just clear up that confusion that we may have had.
Even when I have scrubbed into surgeries and I'm being tested at different hospitals, I'll know the answer because I went to DMU, so yeah.
